Spring Sightings have been Fantastic!

Posted on by admin

Well it has been a pretty successful Spring in the Salish Sea! Sightings started out a bit slow at the end of April/beginning of May, but since then we have had one of most successful Springs of all time! We have seen whales everyday we have been on the water for the past 34 days! Our sightings have included Transient Killer Whales, J & L Pods from our Southern Resident Community of Killer Whales, Humpback Whales, and Minke Whales. We have seen Transients hunting seals and sea lions, and we even saw a harbour seal jump on-board a small boat to escape the stalking transients, it was pretty spectacular!!! This year is the four-year anniversary of the record-breaking 2010 Fraser River Sockeye Salmon run which brought 30 million fish to the shores of Vancouver. The progeny of this massive salmon spawn are expected to return to the river this year and spawn themselves. Salmon are the backbone of our coastal ecosystem and with all these salmon returning we expect sightings to continue to amaze throughout the Summer and Fall.

The sightings and the great weather we have been having in the city and throughout the islands mean our tours have been quite busy. So we suggest making reservations well in advance this summer!!
